conpal was formed in 2008 by former employees of Utimaco Safeware AG as a technology spin-off. From this relationship and subsequent development with Sophos Ltd., a technology partnership was established that continues to this day. In the course of this partnership, multiple rights and sources from various products and technologies were transferred to conpal.

From these, conpal developed a source-in model, which supports fast transfer of code from different sources as well as enabling rapid porting and further development of the starting base – with the addition of needs-based innovations.

conpal has continued to develop this fusion of proven technology combined with innovative approaches.

In 2021, conpal GmbH became an international company with the establishment of a development site in Linz, Austria.

Ralf Engers

Studied mineralogy/crystallography at Goethe University before he started developing solutions for industry and banks as a self-employed software developer. He ran a software company that developed complex interfaces for control center integration and CAD systems, as well as another working in the area of integration for banks and industry.

As a technology consultant, he worked with refactoring and he developed software systems for networked ATMs and banks.

At Utimaco Safeware AG in 1999, he took on the role of Head of Development for all areas and product lines. Following this, he held the positions of CTO of the Device Security division and VP of Device Security. He also assumed responsibility for the strategic direction of the company.

Ralf Engers was a co-founder of conpal in 2008 and is still a managing partner to this day.

Rolf Wassermann

Studied economics at Goethe University before he joined Utimaco Software GmbH in 1990. After working in sales positions, including Sales Manager in the area of public administration, he was entrusted with Development of International Business in 1998.

In the same year, he was appointed as a member of the supervisory board of the newly-formed Utimaco Safeware AG.

In the course of restructuring the company, in 2001 Rolf Wassermann became Head of the new Device Security division with responsibility for global sales and for marketing. In 2006, he moved to the Swiss IT security provider Visonys AG, before becoming involved in founding conpal in 2008.

Rolf Wassermann has been a managing partner of conpal since 2008.
